<lj:music>Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds</lj:music>

I went to a costume party last weekend. The guy who invited me had to work at the door as security until midnigh and I didn't really know anyone there so I didn't dress up.

Either way, I went up to the partry by myself to get a drink. There was an Elvis Presley strolling around who asked me if I was "lonesome tonight" (more freaky than I had imagined, trust me), several vampires, and a few guys dressed as Hamas soldiers.

But I liked this guy's costume the best:

I just squeed when I saw him :)

We talked about how awesome the new Batman was for a while and then he said "Now let me guess who you're dressed up as. It's to do with that necklace you're wearing, isn't it?" I was temped to let him guess for a while, but I let it go :)

Just wonderful running into someone I know, even if from a fictional world :)

Not for anyone in particular, but I moved for emotional reasons only. After all that time in Brussels, I decided to go back to Serbia simply because I like it here better than there. I realize that by that I drastically cut down my choices for Uni (and pretty much anything else), but I never once regretted it. Bottom line - I'm really happy now. :)

Speaking of all that stuff, I went to visit my dad up in Belgium last week. We had tons of fun - talked about books, ate mussels with fries, watched Torchwood. I also went out with some friends and comfirmed my love for beer. Damn it feels good to be a tourist :)

    <lj:music>Joy Division - Disorder</lj:music>

Now it's been way too long since I updated. The school semester is coming to an end, which means I should feel guilty for spending so much time online, and then I guess I try to vent it by not leaving traces behind me :) Like comments or blogs. Therefor, I apologize for not commenting as much as I want to either.

Anyway, not much going on. Seems the schools are going to be closed early due to swine flu. Everything went to mass hysteria a few weeks ago when the schools got closed ("ZOMG I PUT A USED PAPER TISSUE BACK IN MY POCKET, NOW WE'RE ALL GOnNA DIE!!!!!")to the death of our Patriarch when 600.000 people hit the streets to see his funeral, and now we're back to mass hysteria. But if we get a month of holidays instead of 3 weeks, I'm not going to complain :)

In the meanwhile my mom was in Belgium visiting my father for about two weeks, so I was also busy running a household :) And during that time, I figured I may as well have me some fun.

I didn't want to be selfish, so if you ladies wanna give him a call... :)

    <lj:music>I Wanna Be Sedated</lj:music>

I just got back from watching Young At Heart. LOL!

I don't know if you heard about it. It's a documentary about a chorus of 70+ year-olds (the oldest member was 92, I think) that sing rock covers. It was just amazingly funny and and interesting.

There was also a really cute scene (unrelated to the music) when they interviewed a couple. When they were asked how long they have been married they answered "54 years" at the same time. Then the man said "We stayed together for the kids. I didn't want to, she didn't want to. We also went dancing twice a week - I went Tuesdays, she went Thursdays. Lemme tell you, it's all based on faith and trust. I had no faith in her, and she didn't trust me." *G* And then they kissed :P

Here's the most interesting I found that could be linked (damn copyright)

<lj-embed id="11" />

And if you wanna see something even better, here's their version of I Wanna Be Sedated. <lj:music>Outkast - Hey Ya</lj:music>

It has just occured to me that I never blogged about the new school here. :) For probably the first time ever, I think I can say I love school.

The class is huge, 35 of us, mostly girls. I really like almost all of the people there - they all read a lot, no-one comes to school wearing heels, etc. There are also two fantastic caffes near the school, so plenty of time for us to spend time together :)

I've also been doing more or less good with the school work too, surprisingly... Probably because all subjects are humanities (except math and physics), so it's pretty easy to deal with ;)

Only problem with the new class are two soccer fans hooligans, who are ina great minority but get really loud. They had a favorite target until now, a Slovenian girl, but now they've kinda switched over to me. Anyway, they're far too mindless to take them as a serious threat... just annoying for everyone.

The point of all this talking was to say this - we're going on a school trip next week (yay), so I'll probably be offline. And for the weekend I'll be at a seminar, so no net there either...

Ana, the one that drew the Cheshire Cat. :)
We met in the summer of 1998. She's the one I call my best friend, even though we don't see each other very often. That's probably because she has a terrible habit of switching off her phones (home and cell) for weeks at the time. Also, she's in med school right now, so not a lot of time, I guess :)

But the thing is, no matter how long we don't see each other (almost a whole year once), I never have the same relationship with anyone as I do with her.

Yesterday, less than 24 hours before it was supposed to take place. The police said they couldn't guarantee safety, because the fascist kept making public threats for the past few weeks. Not that they arrested anyone.By that, they pretty much told the clerofascistic organizations and soccer fans that they are stronger than the state. And not only they banned the Parade - they prohibited ALL PUBLIC GATHERING "till further notice". I'd honestly become and anarchist now if all five anarchist activists weren't in jail at the moment.

I suppose I should mention some of the events that happened last week. Other than the more and more frequent calls to lynch and plans on breaking up the parade with improvised flame throwers, another thing happened. A group of French guys were visiting Belgrade and had found a nice cafe downtown. Thursday afternoon, in broad daylight, they were attacked by a gang of soccer fans with metal poles. The also tried to stick fire torches in their faces and mouths. One of the French guys is still critical. Wonderful, they practically killed a guy for nothing.

In any case, I thought they made their point - no gay pride, no taunting them. That is, I thought that until this morning, when I heard two Australian tourists got the same treatment. From some guy who claims to be an inside source, I heard it was because they were gay, not foreign. Nothing about it on official news, and I don't know him very well, so... Just came to me - I'm actually wondering if it makes any difference. Bad.

My cousin from Croatia called to say he'd be coming sometime next week. I was pretty damn close to telling him not to come, even though we've never had any trouble while he was here before.

I love playing a housewife :P

Usually, my Mom does some sort of pilates class. While they're away, she told me to fill in for her there. I figured it's gonna be full of old women who can't do much stretches themselves (like my mother). How wrong was I... I just got home and I'm literally shivering all over, lol. So much for me being in shape...

Other than that, school started last week. New school (again), but I think it'll work out just fine. Everyone really does seem nice, and unlike Belgium, the accent here is on the academic part, instead of dicipline. So we get to do what we like *G*

    <lj:music>The Pretenders - Don't Get Me Wrong</lj:music>

This has been piling up for a while. I just need to vent it all out.

OK, first of all, we're less than a month away from the Belgrade Pride Parade. Nice. In case you're not skittish, take a look at how the last one went here.

The organizers asked the Mayor of Belgrade to help out. He's what they call "pro-Europe". An economist, no one you'd normally expect to butt around human rights.

About two weeks ago he held a press conference. A pack of strays bit a woman 11 times. And not just any woman - she's a government official. So our nice, pro-European Mr. Djilas said "No dog will be killed while I'm the Mayor of this city". Fair enough. I like dogs myself. But then he added his own opinion about Belgrade Pride. Sexuality is something to be kept between four walls, and the city will not finance it. So here he is keeping his sexuality concealed:

And sponsoring a Pride Parade. Except it's for straight people only.

Lovely job, my good sir.

And we've had quite a bit of other madness going on too.

During a music festival in South Serbia, called Gucha, a black French woman was kicked out of the tent. Put your fears to rest though, they apologized. "We thought she was a Gypsy." Phew, just when I thought they were racist...

Another example is a leader of a clerofascistic/neonazi organization from Novi Sad (North of Serbia this time), called Goran "Fuhrer" Davidovic. He was sentenced to a fine of 500.000 dinars (5500 Euros) for assaulting a journalist. Except he wasn't. The lawsuit wasn't written in cyrillic, thus his fundamental rights were hurt. A nazi with a Jewish name telling us about his human rights? Wonderful.

But to conclude, I was supposed to be going go Novi Sad this weekend for some workshops. The other day a friend calls me and says I can't go. It's only for lesbians from NS.(!?!?!)

I'd swear we once had a law protecting us from sexual discrimination...

Also local slang here. One is used when you're out and announce you're going home. Then the other party says "What are you going home for, everyone knows you there". I have no idea what idiot picked it up and where, but it's been around for a few years already...

The other one is when you're agreeing with someone, or confirming what they're saying, you say "That work" or "that talk" ("Ta spika" in Serbian).
